~1980
Maccaferri/Summerfield prototype
Extrememly rare Maccaferri/Summerfield prototype, ca. 1980.
This may be a one-off and was sent to Holland to be
appraised/identified (it is without a label); everyone here
agreed it was a Maccaferri/Summerfield but no one could
figure out why it was different from the few hundred that
went into production by Ibanez beginning in 1981. Very
close to original Selmer D-hole (grande bouche) made famous
by Django Reinhardt--sound is crisp, warm, loud and twangy.
Beautiful solid sitka spruce top; solid Indian rosewood back
(maple-lined rosewood ribs); rosewood headstock face,
fretboard and ebony bridge. Mahogany neck is 48mm at nut,
action low. Very good overall condition--a few scratches on
top, some light scratching on back. DeLuxe hardshell case.
Although of perhaps considerable value to collectors, this
guitar is priced according to its quality as a good-
sounding, playing instrument.
